Welcome to Word Wytch!

A Proofreading, Content Editing, Re-Writing, Manuscript Evaluation/Critique Service

Yet another service I offer! Or rather, have revived from the past! (I offered this service earlier in my career, and was a freelance writer for my community newspaper.) A blending of my passion for reading, and the English language!

As long as I can remember, I've had friends and associates comment on my own writings, and/or request that I review writing projects they have produced...sometimes just for opinion, or for a second pair of eyes to get a "fresh take". I usually end up pointing out many typo, grammatical, fact-check, and contextual issues that even assigned editors had missed. These re-writes & changes I suggest improve the flow of their stories and appearance significantly. I love words, love language...it's my thing! Well, another one of my "things"!

Some testimonials:

"I really thought I knew my story inside and out, having worked on it for months. But everything you pointed out to me after you read it made me realize I really need an experienced second party's feedback to see flaws & hiccups I don't realize are there, right in front of me. My story is so much stronger now, flows effortlessly. Thank you, Carol! I wish I'd used you earlier on works that were later rejected." - Leanna B., San Diego

"One thing I've learned as a writer, is you're almost always too close to your own work to see it's biggest problems. Using a service like this is not an admission of poor writing skills yourself; it's an admission that you love your work enough to let someone else stand between you and it, to recognize and tell you what's wrong with it." - Michelle T. , San Diego

"Carol, I know I fought you on that bit of history fact-checking you pointed out on my story and why it might raise credibility questions in the conflict, and I apologize. You were right. You knew and found out facts I didn't look deep enough to validate, even though it's a fictitious story. You likely saved my butt on that. Another book reviewer might have torn me to shreds on that point alone." - Jason Allan, San Diego

"Since I started my online magazine, I thought I could do it all. But man, when crunch-time hits and I'm not meeting my own deadlines, it's so nice to have a back-up service like yours Carol, to edit and proof submitted articles for me. Lifesaver! Thanks!" - Elle Y., Chicago

"I'm constantly trying to do what the SEO experts say to do, change-up website and blog content to keep it fresh, but I honestly start to hate hearing myself talk/write anymore, can't "get fresh" sometimes. Your ideas and content editing really made my site feel that "fresh feeling" again. I'm loving all the positive comments I'm getting from blog followers telling me they love my writing style. I feel guilty that I'm not volunteering info. on who really wrote it! Our secret, OK?" - Anne Walker, St. Louis

"I'm so happy with my new website bio...thank you, thank you! I could never have come up with anything so good and that fits me so perfectly! The last thing I wanted was to sound like everyone else's bio in my industry, they all tend to sound predictably the same. The one you wrote makes me feel like I'll really stand out. So thanks for making me as interesting as I want to be, and think I am, but didn't know the words to say right." - Angela R., Santa Fe

So, as with all of my other endeavors, this was no different. People telling me, "You should offer this as a service" indeed prompted me to offer it as a service! As much as I love my friends, as well as a "good read", I am unable to do so for free, but am happily available for a fee.

Additional areas I have language experience in are medical terminology, having worked thirteen years as a surgical nurse, ran two medical/surgical offices, and a medical transcription service. (So big words like "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanocon" don't scare me!)
